How We Make the Weather Call

The most common question we get after a rescheduled flight is some version of: but the weather looked fine. From the ground, on a sunny morning, it almost always does.

What we are actually reading

Wind direction first. The Kijabe launch needs air coming onto the slope within a workable window. A crosswind that would not move a flag on the ground can make a launch unsafe. Then wind strength at altitude, which is frequently double what you feel at the take-off.

Then cloudbase and stability. Too low and there is nowhere to go. Too unstable and the thermals become sharp-edged and aggressive rather than smooth and workable. We also watch for overdevelopment — that pretty cauliflower cloud building over the escarpment is a warning, not decoration.

The policy

Any pilot on our team can stand a flight down without discussion or justification. There is no argument, no pressure, and no cost to the passenger. We would rather rebook you twice than fly you once in air we do not like.

If we cancel, you get the choice: a later slot the same day, a new date, or a full refund. That is the whole policy, and it is not negotiable in either direction.
