Kenya sits on the equator, so we do not have a summer and a winter — we have wet seasons and dry seasons, and they shape the flying more than temperature ever does.
December to March — the peak
The hot, dry months. Strong sun on the valley floor means strong, well-organised thermals and high cloudbase. This is the best cross-country window of the year and the busiest period for tandem bookings. Book early.
April and May — the long rains
The quietest flying window. Cloudbase drops, mornings are often overcast, and afternoons can build into serious convection. There are still good days, particularly early, but plans need to stay flexible.
June to September — cool and steady
Cooler air and more cloud, with gentler thermals. Excellent conditions for first tandem flights and for students on a course, because the air is far less demanding. Mornings are typically smooth and reliable.
October and November — the short rains
Mixed, but often underrated. Between systems you get clean, washed air, dramatic cloudscapes and some of the most photogenic flying of the year.
Whatever the month, the decision is made on the morning itself. We would rather stand a flight down and rebook you than push a marginal call.
