Kenya's Rift Valley, flown by people who have read this air for years.
Paramaestro Ke is a Kijabe-based paragliding outfit. We fly tandem passengers who have never left the ground, we train the pilots who go on to fly solo, and we know the escarpment well enough to tell you honestly when it is not a flying day.

How the day goes
From the car park to the landing field
Step 01
Meet and brief
We meet at the Kijabe launch, check the wind and walk you through the whole flight on the ground: how the harness works, the running steps at launch, where your hands go, and how the landing works. Nothing happens until you say you are ready.
Step 02
Gear up
You are fitted into a certified tandem harness with a reserve parachute and a helmet. Your pilot runs the pre-flight checks out loud so you can hear every one of them.
Step 03
Three running steps
The wing comes up overhead, your pilot calls it, and you run. Four steps later the hillside stops being underneath you and you sit back into the seat.
Step 04
The air
Fifteen to twenty minutes of the Rift Valley opening out below you — Longonot on the horizon, the escarpment falling away, and a quiet you do not get anywhere else.
Step 05
Landing
A long, gentle approach into an open field on the valley floor. Stand up out of the harness, two or three steps, done. Then we drive you back up.
Ninety seconds
There is no way to describe the quiet. So here it is instead.
No engine, no rotor wash, no noise — just moving air and the occasional chirp of a vario telling your pilot the wing has found something worth turning in.

The site
Kijabe: the oldest flying site in Kenya
Discovered by pilots in the 1990s and still the reference site for the whole country. Three take-offs on the summit, reliable escarpment thermals from mid-morning, and landing options measured in square kilometres.
